Rest strokeA Rest Stroke (rɛ́st strók) is also known as Apoyando, which is a technique where the player plucks the string of the guitar and then, after the follow through, rests his/her finger on the adjacent string. This is why rest stroke is called “Apoyando,” which is Spanish for “resting.”

The rest stroke produces a more punched-up, round sound and can be contrasted with the lighter, bright sound created using the Free Stroke (Tirando) style. Both of these styles are used in the Classical and Flamenco guitar styles.
