Sweep Picking
Sweep Picking (swíp- pɪ́kɪŋ) is a guitar picking technique employed when a guitarist wants to play a series of chord tones at a rapid rate. When sweep-picking, the picking hand uses a sweeping or raking motion across several strings in concert with the fretting hand to produce a series of individual notes that sound both fluid and fast. This method is more economical in terms of the up-and-down picking hand motion making multiple notes strung together, particularly when compared to alternate picking.
Sweep-picking is used primarily in heavy metal soloing where speed is desirable, but is also used in Jazz and other genres.
