Adult Alternative (ədə́lt ɔltə́rnətɪv), also known as Adult Album Alternative, is a style of music that is played on FM radio stations that cater more to the tastes of adults, rather than teenagers. The beginning of this style of music can be traced back to the 60s and 70s and includes a much broader listing of different styles than other types of radio music. The sounds of this style of music are smooth and light on the ears, a perfect sound for radio play. Most Adult Alternative artists take much of their sound from the 90s Jangle Pop and the sounds of Acoustic Folk. Just on the verge of mainstream music, the style is kept unique, but close enough to remain popular with the adult listeners. Many artists have been considered Adult Alternative. Some of the more popular ones of today include Adele, Michael Buble, and Lady Antebellum.
