Classical Crossover (klǽsɪkəl krɔ́sòvər) music is a term used to describe music that has “crossed over” the record charts from one genre of music to another. Classical crossover music can describe, for example, music that occupies a place on the charts of both classical music and popular music. Pachelbel’s work “Canon in D” is an example of a piece of classical crossover music.Classical music tends to cross over to multiple charts when it gains wide exposure. Some of the ways classical pieces get enough exposure to become popular are through their use in advertising, films and television shows. They also sometimes gain exposure and become popular through promotion by music store chains and cafe chains.
