the ramones

From Queens, New York circa 1974 emerged the legendary punk rock band The Ramones. The bold sound and fast tempo of their music is an inspiration to beginning and experienced guitarists, especially lovers of pop rock.  The band was comprised of three members with Joey Ramone on vocals, Johnny Ramone on guitar and Dee Dee Ramone playing bass.

Frustrated with popular music of the day, which they felt was boring and dull, The Ramones sought to inject the spirit of individuality into their tunes. To give their fans a more personalized experience, the band took a fan-based approach, resulting in an interactive performance style that engaged fans on a higher level.

At the dawn of The Ramones era, Johnny relied on his trusted, blue Mosrite Ventures II guitar and a characteristic downstroke eighth note technique. Rhythm and the aggressive, rapid succession of barre chords created what is commonly referred to as the buzzsaw technique, popular among punk and heavy metal musicians.

Beginning in 1975, the Marshall Super Lead 100 Watt was the amplifier of choice for the band. Later in 1983, Johnny Ramone began using a Marshall master volume amp, which he kept cranked up to 10. Marshall Super Lead 100 Watt was the first amp used from 1975-1977. Another key component of the Ramones distinctive sound is the Dimarzio FS1, which replaced the factory pickup on Johnny’s white Mosrite in 1983. To get true Ramones sound, any 100 watt Marshall tube amp will add just the right amount of Ramone to your sound.

As the song lyrics go, I can’t control my fingers. . . I can’t control my toes. Plug in your amp, crank up the volume and keep rockin’!
