Delta Blues (dɛ́ltə blúz ) was one of the very first types of Blues Music. It started in the humble Mississippi Delta Region. This type of music makes great use of the guitar, harmonica, and what is known as a cigar box guitar. Delta Blues places emphasis on the rythmn and the bottleneck slide. Though the harmonica sounds are much the same as in other Blues types, the Delta Blues feature more twang and a higher volume than previous versions. Vocals on this type of style range from quiet and comtemplative to wild and raucous. One of the first artists to start it all, was Freddie Spruell, with his emphasis on the bottleneck slide style. Other well-known artists in this genre are Skip James and Elmore James.
