Hardcore Punk (hárdkɔ́r pə́ŋk) is sometimes referred to as just punk, but has a much harder and faster sound than the original punk. Unlike other forms of music that focus more on the melody, Hardcore Punk emphasizes the rhythm in the music. Often featuring screams, chants, and even spoken poetry, Hardcore Punk is a unique sound that has seen continued success throughout the years, even in recent years. The Godfather of Hardcore Punk is considered to be Black Flag and was later followed up by groups like Fear and The Germs. In recent years, bands like AFI and Rise Against have continued to introduce the genre to a whole new generation.
