Renaissance

Renaissance (rɛ̀nəsɑ́ns) is defined as renewal and the music of the era is of a smooth, soothing, and pleasant listening style. This genre is from the musical regeneration period of the 1400s through the early 1600s. The Renaissance genre in classical music mainly uses flowing chord progressions, interval of thirds, and two or more melody line harmonies. Renaissance music styles during the period vary from religious to secular forms. Instrumental music without singing as well as four part vocal groups characterizes the diversity of Renaissance music styles. Madrigal groups often perform Renaissance music during the holiday season and at popular Renaissance fairs in full period costumes.
