After two years hard at work writing and recording, Matchbox Twenty is releasing their new album, North. Hitting stores on September 4, 2012, North will be the band’s first disc comprised of all new material in over 10 years. Laying low for the past few years, the group’s last album, released in 2007, was Exile in Mainstream, a combination of well-known hits and new material. Since then, front man Rob Thomas has released several hit solo albums and made history by releasing the first album by a male artist from a rock pop group to debut at number one on The Billboard 200.

North’s lead single, She’s So Mean, is rich with guitar sound and a chorus that is reminiscent of the band’s late 90’s style. Other tracks on the album such as Our Song and I Will have a more up to date sound including several acoustic numbers. After beginning their writing journey with over 60 could-be hits, the band settled on 12 tracks for the final cut.

In order to eat, sleep, and breathe music creation, band members Rob Thomas, Paul Douchette, Kyle Cook, and Brian Yale spent last summer as housemates in Nashville, TN. The dynamic outcome is a mix of old and new style music that is sure to please fans. Formed in Orlando, Florida in 1995, the band had several hit songs right out of the gate. Titles such as Push and 3AM from their breakout album, Yourself or Someone Like You, topped charts in 1996. The album soon went on to earn Diamond Status after going on to sell over 12 million copies in the U.S. alone.
