Ben Gibbard has announced that he is releasing his first solo studio album, Former Lives, on October 16, 2012. Gibbard was and is the frontman for the band Death Cab for Cutie. Ben has reassured his fans and the fans of Death Cab for Cutie that he is not leaving the band just because he released a solo album. Reportedly he has said “I’m doubtful I’ll have another solo album for another 10 years because the health of Death Cab for Cutie has never been better”.
 
Gibbard says he wrote all 12 songs on this album over an eight year span while living in two different locations, while drinking, than not drinking, and having gone through three different relationships. Early reviews of ‘Future Lives’ have all been favorable and it is believed that this album will climb up the pop/rock music charts quickly. Ben Gibbard has 19 solo concerts scheduled between the debut of this album, October 16, 2012, and December 5, 2012 in the USA, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, and France.
 
YouTube began streaming ‘Former Lives’ in full on October 9, 2012. The album will be available for streaming until October 20, 2012. The track list for ‘Former Lives’ includes:
