Johnny Marr is releasing his first solo album on February 26, 2013. ‘The Messenger’ is being released in the UK through Warner Bros. Records on February 25 and in the US through Sire Records on the 26th.
 
Marr started his musical career playing the guitar for the band The Smiths.  Johnny was with The Smiths from 1984 – 1988 during which they released eight albums. Marr has played a variety of guitars throughout his career including Gibson ES-355, Fender Telecaster, Gibson SG, and Fender Jaguar. In addition, he owns several Gibson Les Paul guitars including a 1959 model.
 
After leaving The Smiths, Marr released two albums with the band The The, three with the band Electronic, and one with Johnny Marr and the Healers. Since 2003, he has released a total of four more albums with Modest Mouse, The Cribs, and 7 Worlds Collide.  Marr has made several appearances on albums as a guest musician. He has played with bands such as Pearl Jam, Talking Heads, Tom Jones, Lisa Germano and Oasis.
 
Johnny was even an official member of the Pretenders for a brief time. When he was just 23 years old, he sang with Paul McCartney on the song ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. Talking about that experience, it is reported he has said “that was a pretty good moment’.
 
“The Messenger’ is 48 minutes and 22 seconds long and contains 12 songs. The tracks include:
