The band Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed by Hillel Slovak, Flea, Jack Irons, and Anthony Kiedis in 1983 while they were still in high school. Current members of the band consists of Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer. In the last 30 years, RHCP has released ten studio albums, 78 live albums, 11 compilation albums, and three EPs. They have also made a total of 44 music videos. They band broke into the mainstream music world with the release of their fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1991.
 
Through the years the band’s songs have covered a variety of topics. Early song lyrics were more comical with sexual innuendos. After the death of Slovak, the lyrics turned more personal and introspective. The Chili Peppers’ music style is a combination of punk, funk, alternative, and hard rock.
 
Nominated for 64 awards, the band has won 16 including seven Grammy Awards and eight MTV Video Music Awards. In 2008, the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Two of the band’s albums are named in the Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (Californication and Blood Sugar Sex Magik).
