Slacker Radio is one of the internet’s original streaming music services. As with all streaming music service services, as long as you have an Internet connection, Slacker will play music will play songs immediately without requiring you to download files. Slacker supports several mobile devices, including Apple products, Android, and Blackberry and is also available on many home devices, like Roku and Sony Internet TVs.

To get started on Slacker Radio, simply download the application from your device’s app store or go to their homepage at www.slacker.com.Once you open the Slacker app, you will see a menu providing several links to streaming radio stations, separated by genre. There’s also a section to access some live radio statons. To listen, simply push the station tile and the play icon to begin listening. If you can’t find that perfect station, Slacker let’s you can create your own. Name your station then begin to add artist’s from Slacker Radio’s extensive collection. Select several related artists from the list provided, or choose unrelated artists for a more eclectic mix. You can click the heart icon to mark a song as a favorite or click the no symbol to ban it from your station. This helps to really customize the listening experience to your own tastes.

Slacker Radio offers a free listening membership, supported by ads. You can pay $3.99 a month to upgrade to Slacker Radio Plus, enabling you to get rid of the ads, skips songs indefinitely, cache stations on your mobile device for later playback without an Internet connection, and have access to complete song lyrics. Slacker Premium Radio, $9.99 per month, includes all of that, plus allowing you to play specific songs on demand, plays stations of single artists, and create and cache playlists of specific song for listening with or without an Internet connection. Slacker’s offering is very similar to offerings from other streaming music services like Pandora and radio station on Spotify & Rdio, which also provide free and subscription memberships. However, it’s excellent design, access to live radio, and customization options make it a great option for music lovers.
