Punk Rock
Punk Rock developed in the mid 1970’s in the United States, Great Britain and Australia. The genre evolved from the garage musicians of the 1960’s and early 70’s, bands like Iggy Pop, Motor City 5 and Velvet Underground. This rock movement progressed as a challenge to the status quo of mainstream rock n’ roll and became an outlet for anti-establishment sentiments and counter-culture attitudes. Punk rock challenged accepted notions of music while by maintaining a highly individualistic approach. Music is generally fast and hard featuring one to two electric guitars, an electric bass, drum set and vocals. Some of the best-known punk bands include the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and the Clash.
