Fans have been speculating about the meaning behind Bob Dylan’s new album, Tempest. Dylan’s 35th studio album is officially hitting store shelves on September 11. 2012. However, true fans will be able to rush out to select Tempest “pop-up” stores from 4pm-8pm on Monday, September 10th at a handful of choice locations. Tempest pop-up stores can be found in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin. At these stores, fans can purchase the new album as well as a collection of former records and exclusive merchandise. This week-long event includes a limited quantity of albums which have been hand-signed by the artist himself. The album’s release date comes 50 years and six months after the beginning of Dylan’s recording career.
Track titles have caused much debate among “Dylanologists.” The opening title, Duquesne Whistle, is filled with eclectic guitar sounds that have a hint of clarinet feeling while Dylan’s vintage sensation comes through. A second track titled Roll on John has caused quite a stir as the artist performed a traditional song by the same title live on US radio in 1962, the year of his first album release. In total, the album will contain 10 original tracks produced by “Jack Frost,” also known as Dylan himself. The full set list includes Duquesne Whistle, Soon After Midnight, Narrow Way, Long and Wasted Years, Pay in Blood, Scarlet Town, Early Roman Kings, Tin Angel, Tempest, and Roll on John.
Known for his poetic lyrics and his dedication to social justice, Bob Dylan received the United States’ highest civilian honor this year in being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2008, he was also awarded a Pulitzer Prize for the impact he has had on the American culture. Not a stranger to recognition, Dylan was awarded the French Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 1990, and Sweden’s Polar Music Award in 2000.
