Rick Springfield is releasing his 17th studio album, Songs for the End of the World, on October 9, 2012. His first new album in three years, featuring 12 new songs, Springfield’s ‘Songs for the End of the World’ is going to feature four different album covers. Each CD in the different album cover will contain unique bonus content depending on the individual retailer.
Springfield collaborated with Matt Bissonette (his bass player) on several of the songs on this album including ‘Love Screws Me Up’, ‘Our Ship’s Sinking’, and ‘I Hate Myself’. Mr. Mister’s Richard Page and John Waite appear on the album doing back up vocalists for Springfield. In addition, Tim Pierce, Rick’s original guitarist, returns to play on this album. Pierce hasn’t played on an album with Rick since Karma in 1999.
‘Songs for the End of the World’ is set to feature bonus digital content which will be accessible through a specialized app developed by Aurasma. The bonus features include videos, photos, and bonus tracks. Springfield asked his fans to submit videos of them singing along with the YouTube version of ‘I Hate Myself’. He then took the fans actual voices singing the song and used them on the album’s extended bonus version of the song. Not only did Springfield use his fans voices, he also gave them credit and included their names in the credits.
