Let's go ahead and change a string on an Electric Guitar. Most of this is the same as with the steel string acoustic guitar. In this case, we are going to change the B string, that is the 2^nd string. I am going to go up, follow the string across the nut, and make sure that I grab the right tuning post and tuning peg. [Plucks the string while loosening it]. Just like with the acoustic, I am going to take bunch of tension off the string. Now, I am going to take out this string clipper, and clip this string off, and be careful not to poke my hand, If I can. I am going to take it of the tuning post. What you will notice, and this is one of the differences, with this type of a electric guitar, when I take the string out, I am going to actually push it, with a wiggling motion. And what I am going to find, is that it actually comes out at the back of the guitar. So, here is that ball end, I am going to pull it up here. I've already gone ahead and selected my string from the packaging. This is my electric guitar string. I am going to unwind it, and this time I am going to deal at first with the non-ball end. This type of the guitar, which is really common type, has 6 holes. Each hole corresponds to a Saddle. These are the saddles on this guitar [Points to the saddles]. So, you kind of have to think backwards. This is the 2^nd saddle, which means that the 1^st saddle is this one. [Points to the back of the guitar]. When I turn the guitar upside down, it's over here. So I am going to go over to my 2^nd hole, it's the bigger hole, and basically feed this into this hole. It should come out the other side, and it should come out the right side. If it comes out on the wrong one, no big deal, just pull out, and find the right hole. I pull this through, and now the ball is caught here, underneath the Bridge. Just like with the acoustic guitar, I am going to feed it through the slot in the nut. This one has these little runners here, that catch the string for extra support, so I want to feed it under there. And I am going to line it up against the post. This type of an electric guitar has all the Tuning Posts right in the row, so every string that you put on needs to first go against this side of the tuning post [Points to the bottom side of the tuning post]. If you had the three and three, it would follow the rules with the acoustic guitar. Using two hands I am going to hold it in place. There's one wrap, I am going to do the second wrap, because this is a thin string. And I am keeping the good amount of tension on there to keep it under control. I am going to push those raps down, and go in above the raps into the hole. I am going to come out on the other side, above the raps, and pull on that string. I am going to give that a little tug to one side, and begin putting a little tension on the string. Good. Now, I am going to grab my string winder and wind the subtle tension plucking on the string. [Plucks the string while tightening]. Got a decent amount of tension, now I can experiment with the other strings. This is my 3^rd string [Plucks the 3^rd string], and here's my new string [Plucks the 2^nd string]. That's a little bit tighter, you can give it a little bit more tension. Great! And when you cut off the excess end... Some people like to cut it close to the post, that is fine, or you could cut, leave an inch or so, and then cramp it back, that's up to you. Some people like to just let the thing hang of there towards the end. Doesn't really matter. But that is how you string an Electric Guitar.

Can I just pay someone to change my strings? Actually, yes. Most stores will charge somewhere between $10 and $25 to change your strings. It just takes time and patience to change your strings, so we strongly recommend that you learn to do it yourself.   What happens if I replace a string, but one that isn't the right size? For example, if I were to replace an E-string with a B-String. This is not a good idea, because using the wrong string would throw off the balance of tension of the guitar. Too much stress on the guitar can cause permanent damage. However, if you break a lot the same string, you buy extra individual strings. Individual strings often cost less than a $1, and you’ll eventually use them.
