This video is for the F minor chord. So the F minor chord is generally considered part of the open chord family but it’s actually a bit more of a barre chord. There’s just no easy way to play F minor as an open chord. So it is a minor chord, you need that word minor. Let’s kind of look at the easier one to play. Here would be the major version, back to the minor.

So let’s break down the fingering. Usually it’s a little easier to actually start with your third finger on the fourth string third fret. And then the index finger will barre on the bottom three strings, strings three, two and one. There’s no notes on the sixth or the fifth strings, so we’ve got the X’s on the diagram. Let’s hear this.

Things that you can do to make this chord a little easier: you can double up on the barre; you can use two fingers to kind of push a little bit harder, that’s okay for now. And some people find that the third finger makes this whole equation feel real stretched out, so they experiment with using the pinky. And the pinky, that’s okay for now as well. You can use the pinky and the double barre. So kind of experiment with some different things. The main note that you want to try to hear is the third string note, that note there, because that note is responsible for making the chord sound minor.
