This video is for the A power chord or the A 5 chord.

As with all power chords there’s a formula where you find the note you need, in this case an A note, and you put your index finger down and then you add two fingers to that. So let’s go through it here. This is for the root six. So I find an A note on the sixth string, it’s at the fifth fret. And then I put my third finger down on the fifth string seventh fret. Pinky goes on the fourth string seventh fret. All the strings beneath it are X’d out. And I play these three. And that’s the root six A power chord.

Now I can also find an A on the fifth string of the twelfth fret. I make the same movements here. I add my index finger and then my third finger and now the pinky. I have to avoid the sixth string or mute it with my index finger. And that is the root five A power chord.

And in the case of an A chord we have an additional chord because of the open A string. So I treat that A as my first note and I go, second fret of the fourth string. And over on the third string, same thing, second fret. The fingering you use for this one doesn’t matter. You can try different finger compose. It doesn’t really matter because of the open string.
